Environmental Health

Environmental health science is the study of how the environment influences human health and disease.

What is Environmental Health?, a fact sheet from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences

HealthWise: The Environment & Health, a 2006 UNC-TV show that features a panel of experts from across NC, including two CEHS scientists - Drs. William Kaufmann and David Peden - discussing the ways in which environment influences human biology and the risk of developing disease.

Our Genes, Our Environment, Our Health

The UNC-Chapel Hill CEHS COEC has developed a four-hour workshop for middle school and high school science teachers that gives new ideas for teaching students about the role that interactions between genetics and the environment play in health and disease. The workshop, entitled Our Genes, Our Environment, Our Health, provides teachers with current information and activities regarding the issues related to the role of gene-environment interaction in the development of disease.

The curriculum consists of nationally tested activities and laboratory lessons with information on research from UNC-Chapel Hill's Center for Environmental Health and Susceptibility, including projects on human exposure to UV radiation and skin cancer as well as the effects of toxins on sea urchin development.
