Biostatistics and Epidemiologic Methods Facility Core
Objectives
The goals and objectives of the Biostatistics and Epidemiologic Methods Facility Core (BEMFC) are to facilitate high-quality CEHS research activities by providing state-of-the-art biostatistical and quantitative epidemiologic expertise to CEHS researchers in both study design and data analysis. Specific interactions between BEMFC members and CEHS researchers involve the optimal design of research studies, the implementation of sophisticated statistical analyses of research data, the development of innovative biostatistical and epidemiologic methods to address non-standard design and analysis issues, and the organization and presentation of educational opportunities (e.g., seminars, workshops, symposia) as they relate directly to biostatistical and epidemiological needs of CEHS researchers. These interactions will help to insure that CEHS research studies are both valid and precise, leading to meaningful and relevant scientific conclusions about important environmental health issues.
Core Director, Members and Affiliates
Services
More specifically, the BEMFC provides the following services to researchers who are members of the UNC-CH Center on Environmental Health and Susceptibility:
- Help with the optimal design of research studies;
- Help with state-of-the-art statistical analyses of research data;
- Development, when needed, of innovative biostatistical and epidemiologic methods to address non-standard design and analysis issues;
- Organization and presentation of educational opportunities (e.g., seminars, workshops, and symposia) as they relate to biostatistical and epidemiological needs and interests of Center researchers.
Benefits to the Center
CEHS researchers benefit from BEMFC support activities in the following important ways:
- The BEMFC provides CEHS researchers with statistical design and analysis help on all pilot projects;
- The BEMFC provides CEHS researchers with statistical design and analysis help on all research projects, including those already funded and those being submitted for possible funding;
- The BEMFC provides CEHS researchers with educational opportunities (e.g., seminars, workshops, and symposia) as they relate to the biostatistical and epidemiological needs and interests of these researchers.
